Romaco Ranch is a family owned and operated ranch situated in the breathtakingly beautiful valley of the Waterberg Mountains in the Limpopo Province- the heart of the game industry in South-Africa. Being approximately 220km north of Johannesburg, Romaco Ranch is located just on the outskirts of Modimolle and Mookgophong formerly known as Nylstroom & Naboomspruit
 
After the passing of Ellalien's late father Mr Jimie Malan who had been farming in this area since the early 80’s, Romaco Ranch was founded in 2000 and named after Colin and Ellalien's 3 sons- Rodney, Malan and Colin.

These ±7000ha ranches boasts with a variety of natural habitat which ranges from thick bush & open grasslands, to mountain slopes and marshland which makes this area perfect for an abundance of wildlife. Wildlife such as Giraffe, Zebra, Blesbuck, Gemsbuck, Waterbuck, Kudu and many more.

Romaco Ranch is not only home to these plains game but is also home to a variety of exotic species which is currently being extensive bred in camps which has been set aside on the property. These exotic and scarce game includes:

  • Buffalo (East- African, Addo and Thaba Tholo bloodlines)
  • Sable Antelope (Matetsi, Zambian and Cross Zambian bloodlines)
  • Golden Wildebeest
  • Roan Antelope
  • Kings Wildebeest
  • White Wildebeest
  • White Kudu
  • Black Impala
  • Nyala
  • Livingstone Eland
  • Heartwater Springbuck


Great steps or even leaps has  been taken by Romaco Ranch to successfully improve the genetics and numbers of these magnificent animals. (Please see details under Breeding Programmes)

Thus RR is a self-sustaining ranch with income generated by hunting of excess males from the breeding camps and excess animals of the plains game as well as live sales which contributes by far the most to the gross income of the property. All ranch and breeding herd improvement or expansion is thus done with this money.
